By the end of the course teachers will be given the contacts so that they will be able to set up either specialised ME/Chronic Fatigue Support groups, or will be able to integrate students who are recovering in to their classes - or will feel equipped to teach 1 to 1.

The purpose of the retreat is to
• give yoga teachers and interested health professionals a clear understanding of what Chronic Fatigue/ME is and how it affects the mind/body/spirit both from a medical point of view and from the yoga energetic point of view,
• look at the differences between ME and Chronic Fatigue and other illnesses which are included under the umbrella of CFS,
• examine how ME impacts on people culturally and to understand the ME personality and ME as a rajasic condition,
• explain the fight or flight response and how this can be calmed down using the breath and relaxation techniques to help with symptoms and
• examine CFS/ME as a spiritual crisis. Getting back in touch with the authentic Self.

Fiona Agombar had ME for 15 years but recovered thanks to following a yoga lifestyle with the guidance of her teachers Bill Feeney and Angela Stephens. She wrote 'Beat Fatigue with Yoga' in 1997 and was Trustee of Action for ME for 10 years. She originally trained with the Yoga for Health Foundation, then undertook their remedial training in 2005. She has spent time at the Vyasa ashram in Bangalore studying yoga and is currently training as a KHYF teacher. Her mentor is Gill Lloyd. Fiona teaches retreats and workshops for those with ME all over the UK and in Turkey. She has just completed a course on the Patanjali Sutras with Desikachar and Kastaub and is currently studying Vedanta with her teacher Ram, a disciple of Swami Chinmayananda and Sw Dayananda. She is a regular contributor to Yoga and Health magazine.

The day will introduce participants to the Mandukya Upanishad through chanting, discussion, and reflection, with a view to undertaking a deeper study of the text. The Mandukya Upanishad is the most elegant and concise of the Upanishads. It consists of twelve verses expounding the meaning of the mantra 'OM'. Study of the text leads to a deeper understanding of the Advaita Vedanta philosophy.

Rajesh David received his yoga teaching diploma from The Yoga Institute, Mumbai, India, in 1980. A composer and singer trained in Indian classical music, he is inspired by the mystic saint-poets of India. Upasana is a serious practitioner of Authentic Movement and is also a fully-trained Yoga teacher in the Satyananda tradition. Rajesh and Upasana are closely associated with the Mandala Yoga Ashram in Wales, where they lived for four years and where they continue to teach. Together, they have led many courses and workshops throughout the UK.

Aims of the day:
• to teach a balanced ‘workshop-style’ class, while integrating the theme of the day.
• to help students become more conscious of the subtle internal movements of the spine and diaphragm.
• to help students practise in a way that encourages the spine and the breathing mechanism to be freer, and, most importantly, to help them understand when they are, and aren’t doing that.
• to introduce some of the basic principles of ‘Scaravelli’ yoga.
• to give a thorough experiential introduction to this way of working for those new to the approach and, for those more familiar with it, to develop their existing understanding.

tutor photo Bill's own practice and teaching have been most inspired by Diane Long, a long time student of the late Vanda Scaravelli, with whom he has been studying since 1996. He has also trained with Sophie Hoare and John Stirk, and is qualified both as a Sivananda Yoga Teacher and as a Yoga Therapist with the Yoga Biomedical Trust.

A yoga teacher since 1994, Bill teaches during the week in and around Totnes in south Devon, leads weekend workshops throughout the UK, and runs a 2-year Yoga Teacher Training Course based in Bristol. His practice and teaching are also continually informed and supported by his meditation practice and by his work as a trainee psychotherapist.
