A personal account of the day by Wiltshire DCT Debby Wilkinson

The BWY South West Regional AGM was well attended on October 29th with 35 members present at the Lawn Primary School in Swindon. Much of the day was dedicated to yoga practice: the morning to physical practice and the afternoon to more meditative practices.

Active morning yoga session

Lizzie Hawnt led a comprehensive 'Warm up to Asana' which led well into a detailed look at alignment and meaning behind the three Warrior postures tutored by Carolyn Blackburn. It's always good to re-evaluate the way in which we teach these postures and Carolyn's attention to good, safe alignment (especially where the knee is concerned) was very informative. A humorous look at the myth behind the Virabhadrasana (warrior) postures had Carolyn gather us round her for storytelling in true Upanishadic style!

At the AGM, held prior to lunch, officer reports were shared and new post holders were introduced. It was good to put faces to names that I had come across so often.

What a lovely lunch! No need to say how lovely lunch was!

Jan Wilding led a wonderful walking meditation—it made such an impression on one of my student teachers that she has asked if she can lead such a session on a course study day. The treat of the day (for me anyway) was Yoga Nidra followed by chanting led by Claire Beeley. Claire has an energetic and passionate teaching style which rubbed off on us all as we practised new and unusual voice work. Thank you, Claire.

Walkies...!

I'm told that BWY South West will be holding next year's festival in various locations which will enable more people to attend. I very much look forward to this as not only does it provide us all with new experiences from which we can develop our practice or teaching but it also gives us the opportunity to connect with old friends and make new ones.
