Guidelines for CPD : revised January 2010

Please note the new requirements for recording CPD

15 CPD points need to be accrued every calendar year.
Teachers who fail to complete 15 points a year of CPD may have their Teaching Membership status withdrawn.

How to gain CPD points

CPD points can be accrued by attendance/completion of 1 to 5 below:

1  IST Events
2  Distance Learning IST
These both accrue 7½ points because they have BWY-Approved Schemes of Work
3  BWY Modules
These accrue 1 point per hour

1 to 3 CAN be advertised stating the number of CPD points

4  Directed Private Study
This must be for a minimum of 7½ hours Home Study to accrue a maximum of 5 CPD points in any one year
5  Other Yoga Events or Relevant Training Events
These Events should DEVELOP/IMPROVE your TEACHING
They have the potential to count as 1 point per hour. The Attendee needs to decide how many points an event can accrue. It is NOT up to the Organiser to decide.
Seminars or Workshops similar to class practice do not count

5 CANNOT be advertised as CPD or state the number of CPD points

When you attend an event, you are advised to keep a receipt or record attendance/completion/certificate attached as proof.

Recording of CPD

This will now be completed online via the national BWY website.
Please follow these instructions:

• Visit the BWY website (opens in new window),
main page - left side - Members login
• Enter your BWY membership number
• Use your postcode as the password
• You will then be asked to change your password
• Boxes on left side CPD

It is your responsibility to record and accrue your CPD points.

15+ CPD points

If you accrue more than 15 CPD points in any calendar year you may carry forward up to 5 points to the following year.

Exemption from CPD

Exemption from CPD in a particular year will be allowed in the following circumstances:
Personal illness or injury
Bereavement or severe illness of a close family member
Pregnancy and childbirth
Moving house
Divorce/separation

If you are claiming exemption, you need to inform BWY Central Office.

If you are claiming a second year of exemption you must write to NISTO via Central Office. NISTO will then grant or refuse exemption, depending on the circumstances.

Compulsory attendance at a whole DCT Weekend

If you are unable to attend, you need to contact the Administrator to the Education Committee at Central Office with your reasons and state what actions you are taking to be updated on DCT matters.
You will need evidence of this.

If you have any queries about CPD, contact .
