A Guide for organisers of Training Days

The following is a guide for organisers of various training days.
Please read it carefully when organising training days.

Who can attend In-Service Training Days?

  • BWY DCTs and diploma holders
  • Recognised and accredited teachers
  • BWY diploma course students
  • Teachers from other Yoga organisations

What constitutes a BWY Event?

  1. Organisers need to check with the County Rep(s) first in order that there is no duplication of dates in the county or (neighbouring county) as that could possibly reduce numbers for each event.
  2. They need to be clear that, if they advertise it as a BWY EVENT, it actually is.

A BWY Event is normally organised by the County Rep but can be organised by someone else who has no financial interest in the day, i.e. the tutor should not organise the yoga day (as they have a financial interest) and the organiser should not call it a BWY Day if they intend to keep the profits.

All proceeds from the day go to BWY. The Tutor is paid by the BWY and the hall hire (agreed with the CR prior to booking) is paid by BWY. Before the event, hall hire charges and tutor’s fees must be approved by the County Rep. as he/she has experience of fees and booking procedures). The Tutor will also need to be a BWY teacher, BWY-recognised or accredited teacher (with valid insurance).

The role of the organiser is to book the event with the tutor and the venue, take bookings for the day, and send all payments and any receipts to the SW Regional Treasurer, together with invoice for hall hire and the tutor.

If the event does not comply with the above then it should be advertised as a Non-BWY Event.

What constitutes a BWY Day?

  • This can be advertised as an IST day worth 7½ CPD points.
  • IST days are events organised through the Regional Training Officer.
  • They are arranged by County Representatives.
  • BWY Teachers gain 7½ points for attending the whole day.
  1. Organiser will be the County Rep who obtains approval to run the day from the Regional Training Officer, who ensures the event meets all IST criteria. The IST day will then be given a number. This number needs to be used on all evaluation forms and cannot be advertised without quoting this IST number to SW News Editor/website Editor. Evaluation sheets, which are completed at the end of the day, are returned to the Regional Training Officer. This acts as quality control of training and as a record of attendees.
  2. Tutor must not only be recognised (as per BWY event) but must also be on the approved IST tutor list for each training/subject they propose to teach. If it is a new teacher or existing IST teacher with a new course or training day, the Tutor needs to send to the CR an up-to-date CV plus scheme of work/lesson plan for the day they propose to teach. This is approved by the National Training Officer before the day can be booked or advertised.
For more information about the qualifications required to be an IST Tutor, please refer to the
  3. All finance is done through Regional Treasurer and all proceeds go to BWY.
  4. Who can attend? BWY Teachers, BWY Student Teachers any other Teachers. County reps. Give priority of bookings in that order. BWY members get reduced rates.

All other days can be arranged and taught by persons other than those specified above for BWY events or IST days. These are Non-BWY EVENTS and, as such, BWY cannot be held responsible for the quality of training or management of the event. All evaluations and proceeds will be at the discretion of the organiser.
